Chargers vs Broncos Week #12: Breaking Down The O-Line Film

BD Film Chargers

The San Diego Chargers fall to the Denver Broncos in overtime, 13-16. The Chargers drop to 4-7 on the year and the Broncos improve to 6-5.

If is hard to have continuity on a team when you have 3 of your starting 5 offensive linemen out of the game. But players like Tony Moll, Stephen Schilling, and Brandyn Dombrowski appear to be picking up the slack. At least….as best they can.

Tony Moll ends the game with a 80% assignment grade and a +0 dominance score in run blocking. In the passing game, Tony records a 87% assignment grade with a -3 dominance score. Those number aren’t too bad, considering he is a fill in that hasn’t had time to gel with the other players on the line.

Randy McMichael has an off game in run blocking but has demonstrated that he is a real good blocker in pass protection. He ends the game with a +2 power score in that area, which is rare. As always, the tight ends and backs film grades, are here.

Let’s take a look at the rest of those grades…

Broncos vs Chargers Week #12: Breaking Down The O-Line Film

BD Film Broncos copy

The Denver Broncos get a win over the San Diego Chargers, 16-13. The Broncos improve to 6-5 on the season, while the Chargers drop to 4-7.

For the 2nd game in three weeks, the Denver Broncos run the ball 50 or more times. That is a healthy dose of smash mouth football…but the Broncos are making it work along with a very good defensive effort.

This week, I am going to highlight Orlando Franklin. His pass protection, at times, has overshadowed his performance in the run game. However, since the Broncos have been running the ball more…Orlando has had an opportunity to show off his run blocking and ease his way into pass protection.

This week, Orlando Franklin ends the game with a 85% run blocking grade with a +0 power score, and a 94% pass protection grade. The biggest difference in Franklin’s performance is consistency…especially in the passing game.

Let’s take a look at the rest of those grades…

Raiders vs Bears Week #12: Breaking Down The O-Line Film

Breaking Film Raiders

The Oakland Raiders beat the Chicago Bears this past Sunday, 25-20. Oakland now moves to 7-4 on the year and still holds a 1 game lead over the Denver Broncos in the AFC West.

If one wanted to be critical of the Raiders…there are a few points that could be hammered upon. But this season is about moving forward, taking steps, and getting better. And that is just what the Raiders are doing.

Stephen Wisniewski is just one of those players. At the beginning of the year, he was getting beat, missing second level blocks, and letting defenders slide off after being engaged. He is far from a Pro Bowl performer, but it looks like he is getting better as the year goes on.

The game against the Bears is a turn around, hopefully, for Wisniewski. In the Chicago game, Stephen starts to be more consistent and records a 77% run blocking assignment grade with a -1 power score, and a 93% pass blocking grade. He only gets beaten a couple of times, which is a big improvement from other games.

Let’s take a look at the rest of those scores…
