Broncos vs Lions Week #8: Breaking Down The O-Line Film

BD Film Broncos copy

The Denver Broncos lost to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, 10-45. It ended up being a long day for the offense.

I have looked at a lot of NFL film over the past 2 years. Heck, I broke down high school film for years…back in the day. One thing I always tried not to do was let the score influence what I was watching on film. Regardless of the fact that the Broncos lost by 35 points…did the lineman do a good job on each particular play, or not?

Many times, as a coach, I would be upset after grading the film even though we might have won a game. In the end, it’s all about the wins and losses. But you don’t get wins if the performance is not refined from week to week…regardless of the outcome. The Broncos vs Lions match-up was one of those game in which the line did a good job run blocking, despite the score.

This week, FPS is going to highlight Orlando Franklin. Franklin scored a 90% on his assignments in the run game and a +1 power score. That is the Jekyll. The Mr. Hyde was that Franklin ended the day with a 82% pass blocking assignment score (not really that bad) and a -4 power score (bad). By the end of the game Chris Clark was doing some time at right tackle.

Let’s take a look at those scores…

Raiders vs Chiefs Week #7: Breaking Down The O-Line Film

Breaking Film Raiders

The Oakland Raiders pick up a loss this past Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders fall to 4-3, a half game behind the Chargers in the AFC West, and the Chiefs improve to 3-3.

via profootballspotlight.com

This week the Raiders offensive line had the good and the bad. The good, Jared Veldeer recorded a 90% run blocking grade. The bad, Jared Veldeer recorded a 72% pass blocking grade and a -8 power score.

That is the way it was for most of the lineman, most of the game. A good block, then a bad block. Nice effort and domination of a Chiefs player….then a Chiefs player dominates the offensive lineman. Kevin Boss has a nice game blocking this week, those grades, here.

This week the best offensive line performance, I thought, was Samson Satele. I think some fans didn’t realize how good the Kansas City font 3 had become. Samson had is bad moments (like early in the game against the KC nose)…but overall, he came through.

Let’s take a look at the rest of those scores…

Chargers vs Jets Week #7: Breaking Down The O-Line Film

BD Film Chargers

The Charges lose to the New York Jets this past Sunday, 21-27. San Diego falls to 4-2 and holds a half game lead over the Oakland Raiders in the AFC West.

Jeromy Clary has a nice day pass blocking. He ends the day with a 95% assignment grade and a +2 power score. The power score tells us that Clary dictated the defender’s pass rush more often than the defender dominated Clary. Randy McMichael also had a nice day blocking, some nice improvement over the past 6 games. Tight end scores can be found, here.

Pro Football Spotlight is beginning to take a look at defensive linemen and refining how that information will be presented in an article. Go here, to see the Chargers film breakdown of the defensive linemen vs the Jets…and please give any feedback that might improve our presentation in the fan section of this post.

Let’s take a look at the O-Line scores for the Jets game…

Oakland Raiders Game Analysis: Week #7 vs Kansas City Chiefs

Oakland-Raiders-Helmet2

Heading into week 7 of the NFL season, the Oakland Raiders were considered by many to not only challenge the San Diego Chargers for the AFC West title, but to win the division. Unfortunately, the Raiders’ poor showing against the Kansas City Chiefs serves as a reason to question if the Raiders have what it takes to represent the AFC West in the postseason.

The Oakland Raiders are clearly a team on the rise and will bounce back from this humbling experience. With that being said, my analysis of the game is simple…Chiefs won, Raiders lost time to move on! Actually, it’s not that simple.
